"Keep beauty free from cruelty" - Cosmetics without animal testing
Date 2022.01.27

What is animal experimentation?

"Animal experimentation" means that humans use animals to conduct scientific research; while "animal experimentation on cosmetics/household cleaning products" means that humans use animals to test whether cosmetics or household cleaning products will cause harm to humans.

Regarding cosmetics and skin care products, the most commonly used tests are the Draize test (Draize) and the lethal dose (Lethal Dose, 50%).
The former → the most common cosmetic test, the experimental animal is usually a white rabbit, the main process is to repeatedly apply the test substance to the animal's eyes or skin and observe for up to 14 days.
The latter → testing what dose will kill half of a group of experimental animals.

global trend

Since 1998, the United Kingdom has comprehensively banned cosmetic animal testing, and is the first country in the world to ban cosmetic animal testing. The 28 countries of the European Union and Israel have comprehensively enacted legislation in 2013 to prohibit the sale of cosmetics and household cleaning products that have undergone animal experiments. Cleaning supplies also cannot be imported locally.

With the rising awareness of animal welfare, countries around the world have also legislated to prohibit the use of animals for cosmetic safety testing, and cosmetics without animal testing have become a future trend.

Taiwan situation

Taiwan passed the "Regulations on the Hygiene Management of Cosmetics" in 2016, which stipulates that animal testing of cosmetics in the territory will be banned from 2019.

Replacing animal experiments with alternative experiments can not only achieve higher accuracy, shorten the time spent on animal experiments, but also reduce animal sacrifices.
In addition, you can search the database of safe cosmetic raw materials in various countries, and include the raw materials that have been tested in the past, so that you don't need to conduct experiments again.
