what is a preservative?

Preservatives are broadly used to maintain the stability and safety of a thing. Common antioxidants, anti-ultraviolet agents, and anti-microbial agents all have the function of preventing oxidation and bacteria, and are included in the broad sense of preservatives. For skin care products, cosmetics, etc., the law stipulates anti-bacterial, anti-mold and other preservatives in a narrow sense.

 

 

What are the restrictions on microbiological regulations?

Bacterial count: Cosmetics for infants, around the eyes and in contact with mucous membranes: less than 100 CFU/g or mL; other cosmetics: less than 1000 CFU/g or mL.

Pathogenic bacteria shall not be detected: Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans.

 

 

Is it safe to add preservatives?

The preservatives currently used in cosmetics are all added in accordance with the limit table for food and medicine

For island-type Taiwan, in a humid and warm environment, products with high water content, such as bread, lotion, etc., are simply a breeding paradise for bacteria; therefore, preservatives must be properly added to the products , can maintain the stability and safety of the product.
